The Good Samaritan - I (Luke 10:30-37) There are many thoughts that are suggested if we take the Good Samaritan as a type of Christ I. Condescension of the Good Samaritan a. He came where he was (v33) i. Unlike those who passed by ii. On the other side b. In like manner Christ came where we were i. He came to our humanity 1. And took it upon Him 2. Heb 2:14 ii. He came to our sorrow 1. And became acquainted with it 2. Isa 53:4 iii. He came to our death 1. And died it 2. 1 Pet 3:18 iv. He came to our sin 1. And bore it 2. 2 Cor 5:21 v. He came to our curse 1. And passed through it 2. Gal 3:13 vi. He came to our woe 1. And endured it 2. Heb 12:2 vii. He came to our lowness 1. To lift us out of it 2. Phil 2:8 II. Compassion of the Good Samaritan a. He had compassion on him (v33) b. Repeatedly we read of Christ i. Being moved with compassion in His life ii. But the compassion of His compassion 1. When He took pity upon us 2. As He saw us in our sin 3. Ezek 26:8 iii. And died on our account 1. Rom 5:6,8 iv. For as David had compassion on Mephibosheth 1. And brought him into his own house 2. 2 Sam 9 c. So Christ had compassion upon us i. In dying ii. To meet our need III. Care of the Good Samaritan - there are seven things the Good Samaritan did for the man a. He "went to him" i. He did not send a deputy to do his work ii. So with Christ 1. He saves (2 Tim 1:9) 2. He gives (John 14:27) 3. He sustains (Isaiah 41:10) 4. He accompanies (Ex 33:14 5. He keeps (Jude 24) b. He "bound his wounds" i. So with Christ 1. He heals by His stripes (Isa 53:5) 2. Comforts by His grace (2 Cor 12:9) c. He "poured in oil and wine" i. So with Christ 1. He gives unction of His Spirit (1 John 2:27; 2 Cor 1:21) 2. He gives the wine of His joy (Psa 104:15) d. He "set him on his own beast" i. In like manner 1. Christ gives us to sit 2. In the place where He had been (Eph 2:6) e. He "brought him to an inn" i. So Christ 1. Brings us to a place of safety (Isa 32:2) & 2. Into the banqueting house of His fellowship (SS 2:4) f. He "took care of him" i. So with Christ 1. Those who are taken up by Him are not given up a) They are in His might grip (John 10:28) b) They are cared for (1 Pet 5:7) g. He "left supplies for the man" i. He took out two pence ii. What a supply we have in Christ (Eph 1:3; Phil 4:19)
