Cowtown
Good Sam’s (Area
13) has been sending care packages to soldiers serving in Iraq and Pakistan for
the past year. Merriann Martin proposed
the idea during one of our business meetings and the club immediately supported
the activity.
Members bring items for the packages to our monthly outings and there is a box-packing event on Saturday afternoon. Three to four boxes are normally packed and mailed each month. Merriann organized the activity and mailed the packages for several months but during their recent move, relinquished the duty to Mickey Bingham. The troops really appreciate the packages and the club has received numerous letters of appreciation. The following letter was received recently.
Dear Mrs. Bingham
My name is Christian Wolfe. You recently sent me a care package
for me and my fellow Marines. I want to thank you sincerely for doing that for
us. It really means a lot. We are in our third month of our deployment and we
are doing a lot of great things out here. I know the media usually doesn’t show
the good stuff, but trust me there is a lot more good than bad. I hope this
letter finds you well. Thank you again for your kindness.
Sincerely,
Christian Wolfe
This has been a rewarding endeavor for the club and they plan to continue sending the packages for the foreseeable future.
