Good Sam Membership Program
(Current Version 3.2)  

This program provides a computerized means of maintaining a roster for a typical Good Sam Chapter, to include a photograph of the members. Both USA and Canadian chapters can use it.

When a new member first joins a local chapter, they rarely know all the other members and meeting normally once a month, require several meetings before they are comfortable with the names and faces of all the members. With this program they have a ready reference to assist them in this undertaking and the availability of photographs greatly assists them. Additionally with the print capabilities of the program, a membership booklet, e.g., for a three-ring binder, can be printed. 

The program is simply to operate and follows typical Windows' controls. It will operate under all current Window operating systems, i.e., 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP. There is an extensive help file to assist the user as may be necessary. 

The program is written in Microsoft Visual Basic, Version 5 and the help file is written with VBHelpWriter, Version 4.3

Following are all the instructions to download, unzip, install and delete files. If you have any reservations about your ability to install the program, it is suggested that you obtain assistance from a more experienced computer individual. It may also assist you to save this page as a text file so that you can print out a copy of these instructions (graphics will not be saved when saved as a text file).

Full Program:

  1. The file “GS3_2.exe” is a self-extracting Zip file. It is for users who have never previously downloaded and installed the Good Sam Membership Program.
  2. Download this file to any directory on your system. It is suggested that you create an empty directory, e.g. create a directory named “Work.”
  3. To download click on the Good Sam graphic. 
         Download GS3_2.exe program. (5.46 MB)
  4. Once the file is downloaded, quit all programs.

Upgrade Version:

  1. Due to the changes made with Version 3.0 several Windows components, not in previous versions of this program, have been added. Therefore an upgrade version of the program is not feasible. 

  2. Users with previous versions of this program should do the following:
    a. Download the Full Program.
    b. Save your current data files. This is all files that have a .dat extension.
    c. Remove the old version of the program via Windows Control Panel.
    d. Follow the instructions below for unzipping and installing the program.
    e. Restore your saved data files into the directory in which the program was installed. This would be C:\Program Files\GS_Member directory, unless changed by the user at time of installation.

Unzip Instructions: 

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Click on Run.
  3. Click on Browse.
  4. Maneuver to the directory in which you downloaded “GS3_2.exe.”
  5. Click on the file name “GS3_2.exe.” This "hi-lites" the file.
  1. Click on Open.
  2. Click on OK.
  3. The WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box will open. A sample dialog box is as follows:

 

  1. Click on Browse.
  2. Maneuver to the directory in which you downloaded “GS3_2.exe.”
  3. Click on Unzip.
  4. The files will extract into that directory.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Click on Run.
  2. Click on Browse.
  3. Maneuver to the directory to which you unzipped the files.
  4. Click on the file name “Setup.exe.” This "hi-lites" the file.
  5. Click on Open.
  6. Click on OK.
  7. Follow the on screen instructions.
  8. The program will install into the Program Files directory unless the user selects another directory at time of installation.

Sharing installation files:

  1. The downloaded file, "GS3_2.exe" can be copied and given to other members of the chapter, who can then installed it on their computers.
  2. Due to the large size, the most common media would be via CD. 

Remove installation file:

  1. Note: If a user is not experienced with deleting files from their hard drive, it is strongly recommended that they obtain the services of someone who is before deleting any files from their computer. 

  2. This action is not mandatory and is recommended only if a user is experiencing a storage capacity limitation on their computer. The file to be deleted is approximately 5 MB and will free up that much disk space on a user's hard drive.
  3. Open “Window Explorer.”
  4. Maneuver to the directory to which you downloaded “GS3_2.exe” and into which you unzipped the files.
  5. "Hi-lite" the file "GS3_2.exe."
  6. Press the Delete Key.
  7. Confirm the deletion by clicking on Yes.

Feedback:

  1. Individuals who install and use this program are encouraged to provide feedback on its feasibility and especially comments related to errors encountered, anomalies, and suggested improvements.
  2. Since this is program is relative new and always in a development stage, it is highly probably that user(s) may uncover some program bugs that simply escaped the programmer during testing. 
  3. Comments may be provided from the Guestbook page or webmaster@texasgoodsam.com.
  4. Users should also periodically recheck this page to assure they have the latest version of the program.

3.2 03/10/05 Minor revisions to labels to provide a more "user friendly" environment. Member data file included two sample members for demo purposes.
3.1 03/07/05 Changed program fonts to those normally found with a Windows operating system. Changed the music on/off controls. Corrected an error that produced a "Invalid Procedure Call" error message on some computers. 
3.0 01/01/04 Major revision to help file. Added capability to view photographs before transferring for program use. Revised music playing function. Major revision to toolbar controls. Data files created under version 1.1 and later are compatible with this version.
2.1 02/13/03 Adds a printing capability to print all columns contained in the member's listing tab. Data files created under version 1.1 and later are compatible with this version.
2.0 02/09/03 Major revision. Added the capability for the user to select the data to be displayed on the Member's Listing Screen. Corrected an error in the Reports title; the user's local chapter name now appears as the title. Data files created under version 1.1 are compatible with this version.
1.1 02/01/03 Adds additional data fields of Good Sam Membership number, expiration date, date member joined the local chapter, birthday and wedding anniversary. Data files created under version 1.0 are incompatible with this version.
